During the month of November 2012, the McCormick County Library will be offering library patrons a way to reduce their outstanding fines by helping to stock the local food pantry for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Food for Fines Program will allow people to “pay” their fines with donated canned goods. All canned goods collected will be given to the McCormick County Helping Hands Food Pantry. Each canned good donated will clear $3 worth of fines. Dented or expired cans are not accepted. Those who take advantage of the program can easily reduce the amount they owe by half or more. The library hopes to benefit by the return of long overdue materials. The library also hopes that patrons who may have lost or damaged library materials will use this opportunity to settle those accounts. It’s a win-win-win scenario, so take advantage before November is gone.
