On Thursday, May 14th at 6:30 pm at the McCormick County Library, local author Jim Willis will talk about his book Faith, Trust, & Belief: A Trilogy of the Spirit. Mr. Willis is a retired minister, musician and college professor. The author of seven books dealing with religion and spirituality, he has had a front-row seat to the vast, cultural sea-change that has occurred in the religious world beginning in the 1950s. Without advocating any particular religious viewpoint, he offers an insightful overview and a hopeful perspective.
About his book Mr. Willis writes: “This is a book about spirituality for the twenty-first century. It is not about religion, although many religious concepts will find their way into the discussion. It doesn’t have a lot to say about theology, although theology is important in the search for knowledge about the ultimate Mystery that is called God, Jehovah, Allah, Brahman, Manitou, the Great Spirit, Creator, the Ground of our Being, Eternal Consciousness, and many, many other names. Instead, what follows is a search for that which is common to every human being who has ever lived and who ever will live. Whether you consider your worldview to be sacred or secular, religious or humanist; whether you eagerly await the newest scientific discovery or spend your days dreading the next disclosure that might undermine your faith, you share something with every other human being on earth. You are alive. Vibrantly alive.”
The program is free and everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the McCormick Library. Contact the library for more information at mccormicklibrary@hotmail.com or 864-852-2821.
