It’s tax time again and this year free tax preparation will be offered in McCormick by the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). The VITA Program offers free tax help to low and moderate income (generally $50,000 and below) earners who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Volunteers are trained and certified by the IRS to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. VITA assistance will be available at the McCormick County Library on Friday, March 8th, 2013 from 10 am until 1 pm and also on Saturday, March 9th from 1pm until 4 pm. Call 2-1-1 or 864-229-4103 to schedule an appointment. Please bring ID, social security card(s) for you and any dependents, and all tax forms and documentation. A variety of tax forms are freely available at the library and other tax forms can be printed using library computers at a charge of 15 cents per page. Library employees can help citizens locate and print tax forms but cannot provide any help or advice with tax return preparation.
If you can’t make the dates in McCormick, you can still receive free tax preparation at the United Way of Greenwood Jan. 22 thru April 15, 2013 on Mondays & Wednesdays from 10 am – 1 pm or Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:30 pm – 6:30 pm. Located at 929 Phoenix Street, Greenwood S.C. 29646
